When I told colleagues and friends that I was taking a few months off to travel, some of them enthusiastically told me that I should blog about my trips because they would love to hear about what I was doing. I hope they weren’t just being polite because here I am with my first blog (full of nerves I hasten to add). I have never indulged in sharing my thoughts with an audience before – primarily for fear of ridicule – but their encouragement has fuelled my longstanding urge to write. Therefore putting aside my concerns, as long as I enjoy the writing and you enjoy the reading, then that is enough.
But why blog? Well, my aim is simple: it is to share my adventures – the highlights and the hiccups – which may make you smile, smirk, reflect, gasp, relax, shudder, laugh or cry. I hope to inspire you to take time out, whether it’s a few days, weeks or months to pursue your own dreams and adventures.
And that is exactly what I am doing – taking time out. After roughly three decades of employment, I am taking a few months off to travel and discover life on a more flexible and carefree timetable. Together, my husband and I are travelling to countries we have never been to before as well as revisiting much-loved familiar places. Europe is our destination but who knows where life will take us.
